This year I decided that this would be the year that I really focused on learning all the technical aspects of my camera. Photography is so much more than just having a good camera. The photographer is the one that has to know their camera inside and out to be able to manipulate settings and lighting to get that once-in-a-lifetime perfect shot. No matter how long you have been in the business we never stop learning.
Because I knew I wanted to work on the technical side of things I also knew I needed something to keep me accountable. There are lots of options for photo competitions but that didn’t feel right. I wanted to compete with myself and improve on myself with every photo I took. My first thought was a 364 project but I know myself… I get busy, tired, stressed, and unfortunately my fun time (photography) is what takes the back seat. I seriously envy those people that can participate in those, I will make that my goal next year! Then a friend introduced me to a 52 week project, I joined the group with some fabulous other photographer and each week there is a different theme. You can interpret the themes anyway you like but it gives you a starting point for inspiration. I love having the accountability of getting my photo up and I love looking through the talent and stories of the other photographers.
Now to further my accountability I want to start sharing those photos with my favorite people, my clients. Today I will share with you the first three photos I have taken during this challenge and then each week I will update you on the current theme and my interpretation of it. My hope is that you will see a little more of me with my photos. And I hope you will see some improvement with each week that goes by! 🙂
Week 1: Fresh (To be completely honest I missed getting this one up in time but I can share it with you 🙂 )
I love the freshness of these colors and how beautiful the flower and fresh orange look next to each other
Week 2: Storytelling
This one was actually from this summer but it is one of my favorites. I just love how this mama (my cousin) looks at her little man. She is imagining all the stories he is going to write.
Week 3: Light
I took this photo of an actual light that hangs in a store I work at. Everyone always comments on how much they like it. I wanted to capture the uniqueness of it while also showing the shadows it creates.
Stay tuned next week for Week 4: A part of me….
